Ahead of the launch of Gemini 4 Argon, pattrn.ai worked with the Google DeepMind team to test the model against realistic misuse and help improve its safety and security before release. Google DeepMind has now published the results in the Gemini 4 Argon model card and the full Safety and Security Report, alongside a post on developing Gemini 4 Argon responsibly and safely.
We tested how the model handles requests in high-risk areas, including radicalisation and extremism, fraud and financial scams, and democratic harms, focusing on how malicious actors might try to misuse it. Our evaluation centred on harmful manipulation: we assessed the model’s propensity to manipulate across extended, multi-turn synthetic dialogues, tested it against calibrated personas, and had human subject matter experts review the results. Section 3.2.3.5 of the report sets out the findings.
Securing the frontier of AI development is what pattrn.ai does day to day. We stress-test AI models and the applications built on them against realistic misuse, before launch and once they are live, for AI developers, companies, and public sector teams. We were glad to work with the Google DeepMind team on this release, and to see independent pre-deployment testing published alongside the model.
